Native Planting - Loon Lake

Camp Tekakwitha on Loon Lake partnered with our organization to address a growing concern along their shoreline. Over time, natural erosion combined with repeated seasonal ice shove had begun to wear away the bank, gradually pushing soil inland and threatening the stability and long-term health of the shoreline. To combat these challenges, we implemented a native shoreline planting designed to stabilize the soil and strengthen the bank naturally. As these native roots establish and grow, they help absorb wave energy, reduce runoff, and create resilience against future erosion and ice movement.

Beyond its ecological benefits, the planting adds a vibrant and welcoming landscape feature for campers and guests. Positioned near the camp’s volleyball court and adjacent swimming area, the shoreline will continue to transform as the seasons progress, offering changing colors, textures, and blooms that youth and adults alike can enjoy.

This planting includes a variety of native species selected for both their shoreline stabilization qualities and visual appeal, including Sky Blue Aster, White Prairie Clover, and Little Bluestem.
