Spring is Approaching!

It’s time to start thinking about the garden! Here at WAMSCO, preparations are underway for the 2026 growing season. Seeds are stratifying and projects are going in the calendar. If you’re interested in starting a rain garden or native planting this summer, now is the time to reach out! You may be eligible for cost reimbursement through WAMSCO. To qualify, the planting must be within 1,000 ft of a lake or 300 ft of a river (the body of water must be a DNR recognized waterway).

Native Plant Sale - Closes March 28th

Looking to add native plants to your garden? Look no further! Wild Ones Wolf River Chapter is hosting their annual native plant sale. Print off an order form and mail it in before March 28th. You’ll be contacted in June for plant pickup.

Pet Rescue Event - April 25th

WAMSCO is partnering with J&R Pet Rescue to host Shawano’s Exotic Pet Surrender Event - a chance for people to safely surrender exotic pets they can no longer care for. Properly rehoming animals - including fish, invertebrates, reptiles, birds, and small mammals - helps protect the environment by preventing releases of non-native species.

Help wanted!

April 13th & 14th 8am - 4pm: Biobag installation @ Tilleda Falls Campground

Come help WAMSCO and the Shawano County Land Conservation Department install biobags - an environmentally friendly shoreline erosion control method. This project will include filling, lifting, and moving 80lb Envirolok bags.

Assist in planting native gardens and rain gardens
Help maintain public plantings that were installed in the community
Seed collect from native plants in the fall
Contribute to waterway monitoring by collecting data through our WAV or CLMN partnership programs
