“River Otter Eating Young Musky” by Joe Riederer – 1st Place in the 2025 Wisconsin Lakes and Rivers Convention Photo Contest

Program Spotlight: WAV & CLMN

Get involved in protecting your waterway through data collection. The people that best know a waterway are the ones that see it everyday. You will be the first to notice when there are changes - good or bad. Early detection is a key factor to help you maintain a safe and healthy waterway for your enjoyment. Data collection is very helpful in supporting a waterway’s protection and improvement efforts.

Water Action Volunteers (WAV), focusing on rivers and streams, and Citizen Lake Monitoring Network (CLMN), focusing on lakes, are statewide volunteer waterway monitoring programs. Each volunteer spends about 2 hours per month throughout the warm season reporting on water clarity, chemistry, and aquatic life.

WAMSCO is your local coordinator for these programs. If you’re interested in collecting data on your waterway this summer, reach out today at wamsco.wcc@gmail.com.
